In the various regions of the Himalayas, The Everest Base Camp (EBC) trekking is awe-inspiring every time. It’s easy to imagine that in my 15 years of hiking in this beautiful region there’s nothing to anticipate for my next trip. However, Everest never ceases to amaze me. It’s not just that the trek brings you to the top of the world’s highest mountain and back, but the entire journey is filled with stunning views, awe-inspiring mountains, friendly locals and the rich Sherpa culture, delicious meals and smiling guides and wildlife, plus much more. It’s an unforgettable trekking experience in the high Himalayas.

It’s an amazing feeling to be part of Everest Base Camp treks all year round. Through the years I’ve experienced the lows and highs of this trekking. I consider my experience of trekking to EBC an incredible learning experience since each trek gave me a different lesson. We can safely say this EBC trek is suitable for everyone who is looking for adventure, However, it is important to be aware of some key points in your mind prior to and throughout the hike.

  1. EBC is not without physical difficulties, but it’s not the toughest hike in the Himalayas. It is essential to be mentally prepared for the fact that you are going to make the magnificent journey to the EBC situated at 5364 m in altitude. Be sure that you’re well-equipped and prepared for the trek.

  1. Be at ease with your gear, particularly your hiking shoes, daypack along with trekking poles. Begin hiking (or taking a walk) at about two weeks before the actual date of your journey. This isn’t a requirement, but this will allow you to get the most enjoyment out of your hike.

  1. Make sure that you’re equipped with the appropriate gear for the season. You can hike to EBC all year round, but each season is unique. Before booking your trip, ensure you conduct some research about the weather before you go.

  1. Don’t go on a trek by yourself. The general consensus is that this hike is secure and there are plenty of tea-houses on the way, however, it’s recommended to walk with your travel companions, and with an experienced guide as well as porters. If you don’t plan it properly the trek could be too much for you to arrange assistance due to the difficult conditions of the Himalayas. It’s always safer to walk with an expert on these routes.

  1. Remember to allow yourself plenty of the chance to get used to your surroundings. The most challenging part of this hike is the altitude, which is something you don’t always prepare for at home. Your body must adjust before going to higher elevations.

6.The high altitude can cause people to feel hungry. Take a bag of your most-loved snacks to be prepared in the event that you need them.

8.If you’re not able to travel to Base Camp, it’s safe to stay in the area and eat at the tea-house. The CEO has access into the kitchen so that they can check the way food is prepared to ensure freshness and hygiene.

9.Don’t take on too much or carry too much for the entire trip. Consider what you’ll require for your particular day and then pack in line with that. Don’t forget your first aid kit!

10.The only way to access The Everest region is via Lukla. In good weather there are frequent flights from Kathmandu however, in the event of poor conditions, flights are cancelled. Since weather conditions may alter abruptly, be prepared for delays of either length or duration based on the weather conditions.

  1. Don’t forget to thank the local team you support. Tipping may not be part of your customs, but this money is a way to help them.
