No matter which part of India you belong to, the one thing that you must have heard about and tried for sure is Vada Pav. It is a staple for people in Mumbai, and there is a reason behind the Vada Pav being so famous! If you are someone who is a keen food connoisseur or you are in Mumbai, there are a few places that you must visit for a great, wholesome Best Vada Pav in Mumbai experience.
Mumbai is famous for its Street Food, But, even after so many food options, the people keep going back to the good old Vada Pav. It might seem like a very special dish, but it sure does have a very interesting history.
This street food delicacy came into existence in the late 1960s. A street vendor named Ashok Vaidya used to run a small stall near the Dadar railway station. His basic idea was to provide the daily commuters with a snack which was easy to eat and easy on the pockets, too. So he came up with the idea of putting a mashed potatoes patty between the pav and a layer of ginger powder. This idea went on to become a massive hit among the locals and later got elevated to one of the best snacks in Mumbai. So much so, that today there is a chain of vada pav called “Goli” which has outlets throughout the entire country.
Later, the Shiv Sena then branded the snack as a snack for the Marathi working class, and then the trend caught on with everyone. It became so popular that a lot of workers left their jobs to open vada pav stalls across the city.
So the next time you sit down to eat a vada pav, make sure you share this small story with your pals ;).
